compete published some statistics from one of their recent smartphone intelligence surveys when they asked, what travel apps/actions mobile users will actually use on their next leisure trip. the top answers where finding informations about the destination (34 percent), checking the status of the reservation (29 percent) and research lodging options (25 percent).

as only 20% of the respondents had already downloaded a travel-application to their mobile phone, there seems to be a gap between people already using the mobile for researching travel information and people who use designated apps for that. therefore compete asked, how useful special application would be to them.

quite interesting, over the half of the respondents would find applications useful, that notifies them of unplanned schedule changes and 48 percent apps, that notifies them about rate-changes. about 40 percent want applications, that consolidates all their reservations into one itinerary and apps, that help them manage all their reward- and loyalty points.
