free socialgraphics webinar

just a short notice, there will be a free webinar held by charlene li and jeremiah owyang from the altimeter group about socialgraphics and how they provide a customer-centric approach that fits into your social media strategy.
In the past, marketers have relied on tried and true demographics to understand customers. Now, as consumers adopt social technologies, marketers must measure socialgraphics, which indicates how they interact with each other.
if i understand right, this sounds to me like they want to explore new market segments, that do really exist – i am speaking of social groups and not theoretical constructs like “the dutch” or the “the best ager” that infact have no connection among each other but are really only theoretical constructs that marketers use in order to simplify a complex world. i use to call them affinity groups, which are scene-based networks of consumers and suppliers, who are publicly committed to a shared affinity and who organize themselves. as the members of affinity groups share a strong affinity with each other, these groups come to existence of its own volition and represent real and stable market segments. this is where socialgraphics can come in and shall (according to jeremiah) answer the following 5 questions:
- where are your customers online?
- what are your customers’ social behaviors online?
- what social information or people do your customers rely on?
- what is your customers’ social influence?
- how do customers use social in context of your products?
this is the second aspect i am interested in and it comes close to a mixture of social media monitoring, netnographic approaches and social network analysis. i already subscribed to the webinar and am looking forward to it. so mark your calendars!
